The Consumer Product Safety Commission (www.usa.gov) estimates that up to 24,000 clothes dryer related fires occur each year. And the staggering truth – according to the National Fire Protection Association (www.nfpa.org) – is that the leading factor contributing to the ignition of home fires involving clothes dryers failure to clean.
Fires can occur when lint accumulates in the dryer or in its exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air and cause excessive heat build-up, which can result in a fire in some dryers.
