Durling Cleaning Now Offering Dryer Vent Cleaning

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (www.usa.gov) estimates that up to 24,000 clothes dryer related fires occur each year. And the staggering truth – according to the National Fire Protection Association (www.nfpa.org) – is that the leading factor contributing to the ignition of home fires involving clothes dryers failure to clean.

Fires can occur when lint accumulates in the dryer or in its exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air and cause excessive heat build-up, which can result in a fire in some dryers.

“Most people think cleaning their dryer’s lint screen is enough to keep their clothes dryer running efficiently and safely. The fact is, lint can build up in the dryer vent creating costly and dangerous situations,” says Matt Durling, of Durling Window Cleaning & Dryer Vent Cleaning.

He continues, “When you work with us, we provide you with superior quality only a professional dryer vent cleaning service can offer. Amateurs could damage the ducting or the dryer itself. Improper cleaning can create blockages that will damage the dryer or create a fire hazard.”

Durling, who opened Durling Window Cleaning back in 2003, saw a need for a dryer vent cleaning service in the area when he was out on window cleaning jobs.

“I’m up on ladders and noticing a lot of dryer vents embedded with nesting materials from birds and hornets and lint build-up, keeping the vents open,” says Durling. “I researched on how to clear vents, purchased all the equipment needed, and studied the codes.”

Besides extending the life of your dryer, client Russ Starkey says that using Durling’s cleaning service curbs costly repairs and high utility bills, and most importantly, prevents a house fire. “It’s actually one of those things you just forget about doing.”

Durling recommends scheduling a yearly dryer vent cleaning (more often for commercial buildings) to reduce the build-up of mold and mildew, to eliminate potential carbon monoxide poisoning, to extend the life of the dryer, and to reduce your electric bill. If clothes take longer than usual to dry or a dryer is hot to the touch on the outside, it’s time.

The wet/dry vacuum system that Durling uses allows him to thoroughly clean the dryer vent ducts and remove any blockages or build up. “This is a powerful vacuum which ensures contaminants – like mold or vermin feces – are not blown into the house,” he says.

Many people don’t realize that the duct attached to their dryer leading out to the vent could actually be flammable! Durling can reassure his customers that they are actually using the proper duct for dryers, and if not, he can replace it for them.

Whether the inside-out or the outside-in, whatever the requirements, this local professional will take care of his customers’ dryer vents. He also uses an air flow meter to verify air is properly flowing without obstruction when he finishes this service.

“Give yourself peace of mind when using an appliance you and your family rely on,” Durling says.
